Forego

Forego is one of those words that I have trouble with.

For instance, yesterday, I decided to forego my shower.

Sounds completely incorrect to say, I forewent my shower.

OMG, Merriam-Webster, really? Forewent is correct. We learn something new every day.

The Great Gatsby

So I read Great Gatsby for the first time. Honestly, not that great. It was finally getting interesting on page 116. But then, Gatsby doesn't make an appearance until page 50-something.

The book wouldn't get published today. A remote character watching the events tells the story, if the mystery of Gatsby is so great, I'm missing it (possibly because I heard so much about it before reading it) and there is waaaaayyy too much that has nothing to do with the plot going on.

I will give it one thing: The descriptions, language, the way things are phrased, magnificent.
